pineapple photo   Pinapple(Ananas comosus) is the common name for this edible tropical plant and also its fruit. It may come as a surprise to many  that pineapples are actually not just one fruit, but a composite of many flowers whose individual fruitlets fuse together around a central core.

Pineapple is an excellent source of vitamin C and manganese. Pineapple can be left at room temperature for one or two days before serving. While this process will not make the fruit any sweeter (since a pinapple stops ripening as soon as it is picked) , it will help it to become softer and juicier.

This juicy and delicious fruit can be cooked,  eaten fresh or canned and is available as a juice or in juice combinations. It can be used in many Guyanese desserts, and beverages such as pine tart and pine drink, just to name a few.
