Guava is the authentic Arawak name of this pungently scented fruit. This fruit is usually 2-4 inches in size, and may be round, ovid, or pear-shaped.

The flesh can be white, pink, yellow or red. The seeds are numerous, small and fully edible in some varities.  The fruit can be eaten raw when ripe, or can be used for making guava jelly or guava nectar juice which is very popular throughout the Caribbean area.  Various parts of the guava plant are used for other purposes, including the leaves of the trees, which are sometimes used in folk medicine.
